Koreans React to Obama

November 9, 2008 at 12:21 pm (Korea, OBAMA)

On the afternoon of Nov. 5th, word was passed around quickly that Obama had won the Presidential election of the US. The reaction, I must say, has been interesting to say the least. Many have said congratulations on Obama’s victory. But when you ask how they feel about him, they claim a great sense of uncertainty. Although he is a huge step in American society, his lack of experience is his biggest flaw. No one is truly sure as to what his foreign policy will be. Nor is anybody sure what good things Obama can do for the economy. When asked, I have always been optimistic, and said that this is a great feat for American society that this many people voted. And also, that we all voted in an election that would be historical, regardless of the outcome. This outcome itself is a change in that we can once again be proud of our country. That abroad, I can proudly say that my country helped a minority achieve the position of President of one of the most influential countries in the whole world. I can proudly say, I am an American. Yes, he has a lot of work to do. But there is a need for us to come together as one nation. A country that was once divided needs to be united once again. Considering the amount of people that voted? I would say that this was a step in the right direction.
